Inspired by Vintage Tropical

Summer has finally hit NYC and I suddenly have a yearning to lighten up my city apartment with vintage Havana and old Key West inspired decor like the fabulous chair I recently saw while window shopping on Court Street in Brooklyn.

I've been to Havana, many years ago, and would love to go back. There is nothing like sitting in an open air cafe or restaurant, under a ceiling fan, surrounded by old Havana, almost like time has stood still since the 60's, dancing to some salsa music and drinking a nice, cool drink. One of my favorite memories from that trip is taking a taxi to Hemingway's house, on the outskirts of Havana, and once there completely understanding why he never wanted to leave the tropical island.

Here are just a few of my favorite vintage tropical finds inspired by the summer heat, including the Island Ambiance reed diffuser by Malie Organics that promises to transform any room into a tropical paradise.

Share a tasty beverage in tropical style with the Oasis Garden Terrace beverage set from Artland featuring natural, woven seagrass and uniquely styled glassware.

The La Scala Breezer comforter set from Tommy Bahama calls up visions of a tropical paradise where it is always sunny and life is good. A casual cabana stripe in warm tones of papaya, mango and terra cotta on an ivory ground makes a relaxed yet elegant statement.

Boldly standing on the rich charcoal ground of this stunningly soft Coral area rug from Kas is a lush display of tropical flower motifs accented in a wondrous palette of brilliant jewel-tones.

Refresh your living space with self-adhesive wallpaper designed by Genevieve Gorder and featuring vintage-inspired tropical patterns. The vinyl paper is repositionable and removable, making it apartment-friendly and easy to apply using the included squeegee.
