Film:

Friday night, I had the fun experience of seeing one of my all time favorite actors, Sam Elliot, in his new film "The Hero" at NYC's Angelika Film Center and then moments later he was sitting in front of me, looking as handsome as ever, answering questions from the audience with that same deep and resonant voice that has become a national treasure.

Elliot plays the title role in the film about a 72 year old movie star, no longer getting the offers he once was, but best remembered for a western forty years earlier. Was just a pleasure to watch Sam Elliot in a starring role.

Book:

Patricia Bosworth is the acclaimed biographer of Montgomery Clift, Diane Arbus, Marlon Brando, and Jane Fonda...what you probably don't know is that at one time she was quite a successful actress, starring in the 1955 Broadway production of "Inherit the Wind" and alongside Audrey Hepburn in 1959's "A Nun's Story".

The men in her life include her father, who was the famed civil rights attorney Bartley Crum, and her brother, her "soul mate", who tragically takes his own life at a young age. This is a coming of age story about not only her failed marriages, but her privileged, yet troubled, life. Bosworth has plenty of stories to tell, she became a successful commercial model and a regular on Broadway, she was a member of the Actor's Studio during it's heyday of Marilyn Monroe, Paul Newman, and Steve McQueen, and she gave it all up for a career as a writer.
